Blazers Open at NBA Champs

My beautiful city, Portland OR. This is the new pod tram that rises over the SE waterfront district...currently in rapid development. Yes, I have a little heart for the Blazers too and will watch them play at San Antonio tonight to open the season. Hopefully it won't be Halloween scary.

I would have Bill Walton wish the Blazers a good season but it would take him 45 minutes to do it. The skinny John Madden of NBA announcing, but so much more annoying. I adored Walton as a kid. Then I asked him for an autograph when no one was around, he was leaving a phone kiosk at a mall, like 1973. He was in a bike race that was held in the mall that day, a huge event. He brisked right by me and I kid you not, said fuck off kid! Nobody was around, it was awkward...I cried. And that fucker was laid out, all 6'11" of him, sliding on the pavement within 10 mins of saying that to me. Karma is a bitch Bill. It was kinda funny, he was in the middle of the pack rounding a corner, like 50 guys. His head was 3 feet above all others in the middle of the pack. Like a giraffe with Carrot Top's head. He was bloody and bruised. Think I saw him (this was before cell phones) at that same phone kiosk, calling John Wooden to tell him the news! Yeah Bill, I was your personal "Omen" boy that day. Never liked you since and I live in Portland. But anywho, Good Luck in '07-'08 Blazers.

Let The Real Begin

If there was fanfare and celebration for the 2007-08 edition of what is the Seattle Supersonics, I would be the 1st one in line. Alas, we are a step away from losing Seattle's 40 year entry in the NBA. Many deep playoff experiences and many ultra letdowns. And one actual NBA Championship. Oh do I remember that one. The Cheap Trick "Dream Police" and the Knack "My Sharona" summer. And a certain little Catholic School girl who came to my town and broke out of her shell and I was the beneficiary! My 18nth year on the planet, and it was good. '95 wasn't bad either. I was on vacation in '94 when I picked up a paper and saw Mutombo clutching the ball smiling. I didn't make an attempt to even watch it I was so confident. The pain of it all. We are like the Bobcats West now.

Is there anything to look forward to? HELL YEAH! The Sonics begin another season. I always look forward to it, even if there is little hope of the playoffs. Or even deeper, a team. Whats to play for, the love of the game and city? Play your way into the hearts of the fans in Oklahoma City? Take the Hornets, please. Bennett just wants to be like some kind of Okie Oil Savior who brings pro sports to the plains all wrapped up in a black death knell ribbon for Seattle. Ohmigod! And I forgot, the Storm! Ouch, just take the Storm Clay!

We open a mile high in Denver. This Wednesday night. I consider the Nuggets a kind of rival. It is a good opening contest. The Nugs ripped off the powder blue of my beloved SD Chargers and now sell mad more merchandise. Oh and the Iverson, Carmelo thing. Hopefully Wilcox will have another performance like he did against the Suns in the last preseason game. Did everything but take tickets and make popcorn!

The straw that stirs the drink, it's just a little weaker drink than the past.

Oh the irony. Here is the Sonics in 1967, the 1st year in the league. Nice shorts! Tom Meschery takin' the low flying hook against another team that bailed and was expansion in the same year, the SD Rockets. Now in Houston and actually have a good history. 40 yrs and we pack it in to Oklahoma? I remember in the 90's we actually had a few celebs in the crowd, when Pearl Jam and Nirvana ruled the airwaves. And Seattle actually cared, dare I say had a little love for the team. Granted, we had a great team. Nobody in Portland cared about the Blazers a few years back, and they still have a poor record, but peeps buy into the hope. And see a team that dives for loose balls. And they are back to being fairly popular and talked about in this town. I bought tickets for opening night here at the Rose Garden 11/7 against the team that should be in Oklahoma and was...the New Orleans Hornets. It is sold out so it should be rawkin'.

Suns Supersceded

Lots to tell, but pussy...this would be a cat? Beckons. Kitty at my feet and I want to touch it. The Presidents of the USA...yeah, they sang the Sonic song. And in preseason we ended it with a W over the Suns. Imagine that.

Roze Gahden Dis Wednesday!

OK, so it's only preseason but what the hey...I'm psyched on tomorrows game I will be attending here in Portland tomorrow between the Blazers/Sonics. Just want to watch the team stretch it's legs and run with the I-5 rivals who I must admit, are my 2nd favorite NBA team, with Golden State 3rd. Yeah, I know how to pickem don't I? We are playing the Warriors right now in Seattle and are ahead in the 3rd quarter. Ya hoo! Days away from the real games.

Monta Ellis sweeps by the now injured phenom Kevin Durant. When I was in the Bay Area a few weeks back Ellis had taken a nasty fall on his head I read in the SF Chronicle. Good to see you back Monta, take care o that melon.

Oh well, we ended up losing but I found out something cool in the process. I was following the game on NBA.com Gametracker which is cool to follow the live score, but lacks the crowd noise and sneaker squeaks of the sound of the game and of course, the call of the local teams AM radio sportscaster cuz you gotta love a homer. I have a new laptop I'm just getting used to so it does more than my old dial up ever could. I see the "listen to the game" live and clicked on it, registered, and in 2 minutes was listening to the game via internet radio! I think it's free but it might be a free trial, but I didn't see anything about paying any $$. if you love your team or the Sonics, do this! You have every game a click away wherever there is wireless...NICE.

New addition Wally Szerbiak launches a trey. The signs of a lame duck team shine through. I know it's only preseason but look at all those empty seats. Oh, the team may not be that good either. Sorry, just being honest.

So the Warriors streaked by us in the 4th, 126-122. Kevin Durant went down with an ankle injury, dosen't seem serious they say. But i won't be seeing him play tonight here in the Rose City. Drag. Won't be wearing the Ray Allen throwback I used to love so. The throwback shooting shirt warm up will suffice. Yellow n Green in a small sea of red and black. Maybe I'll blog live from the game...nah! $9 beers await me. If they only knew that I down the sixy of PBR before I go in, and then only buy two beers. It's awesome though, I walk 2 blocks to the MAX train station and get on, and I'm at the R Garden in 10 mins w/no parking fees or hassle. Yep, just another Sonic fan reducing his environmental impact on the universe. GO SONICS!

Last but not least, pray for Socal. Katrina in Flames! I have friends on roofs with garden hoses...freakin' valiant. And we herd then into stadiums now. Where is the Nat'l Guard? To all my friends in the Southland, remember P Diddy's (then Puff Daddy) ode to Biggy: Everyday we pray for you...hang in there.

The BOOM! Returns for '07-8

It is the triumphant return of Sha Lock Lock Sonic Boom is here. Once named 3rd best Sonics blog in the nation and best outside of WA by Deadspin.com and now long forgotten. Another pioneering blog spot that gave the opportunity to amateurs was roundballbloggers.com. AOL is paying for it's disloyalty to the free bloggers who built up the ratings by contributing for free, then being dumped for others to further they're
careers or for boring supposed  professional  writers. Who got paid out of the gate after we heart n souled for years. The hits dried up and these spots are now "dead" per say. Well we'll see if I can get back what few SEATTLE Sonic fans are left in the world.

After being set up for the kill by wahoo Clay Bennett. I said SEATTLE because that is where this team is from. All you aspiring OK visiting Hornet soon to maybe be Sonic fans, enjoy our team if you get them. You don't suck, but the OK Weasel Conglomerate sucks golf balls thru garden hoses.  It's underhanded and Stern will enforce all kinds of dainty shit but this just blows by, not on his radar. Mr. Stern, is some of that oily $$ in your pocket? OK, so this is a lot to play through with the young team we have. I see a tough learning season ahead. Maybe only Danny Fortson has the gumption to choke out PJ Carlesimo and thats a long shot. I live in Portland and I will catch all Sonic/Blazer games at the Rose Garden including the Christmas day game. May even road trip up to Seattle for a few, against the Celtics would be nice. A little green on green action!

Delonte West is ready to play and he be sportin' tatts like Fiddy!

So on to this years team...ummmm...uhhhhhh. Yeah, we got the #2 guy in the world, freshy phenom Kevin Durant. And a solid Jeff Green who has looked much better than the phenom in preseason. Granted he is a little more college seasoned. We don't have a Greg Oden at center, but neither does Portland! Unfortunately. Will we triple platoon at center? The newly over inked carrot topped Swifty, the Frenchman Johan Petro, and Sene? With Collison as back up, back up, back up, back up? Oh, I forgot Kurt Thomas, sheesh.  Swift, if healthy, could produce some numbers but he is a big man kid who needs some more NBA real game experience to know where he may be headed career wise.

Luke R with the new mask. I love Luke, cuz I lived in his sleepy hometown Blaine, WA and loved it. Your still famous here in OR Rid, but make a name for yourself in Seattle this year, willya?

The front court is strong. The wings are solid in young and veteran. Is Szerbiak still viable? He should help the youngsters. Wilcox flies high some nights. The rookie tandem of Durant/Green might jell some nights. Chairman of the Bored, I mean Board Nick Collison starts another season in green n gold. We should be consistently inconsistent.

The guards, we got plenty. None meeting potential at this point. Will Luke be a perennial all star? Most likely not, but when on his game he is solid assist wise and can throw down a few buckets, big defensive liability. Durant becoming the new Magic of the 2000's would be nice, we'll see. We have shorty Watson, great back up, would not start on most NBA teams.  Gelebale, Predator hair doo is a back up too, and has legs as thin as flamingo's, they scare me in the frailty of they're appearance. Like fireplace match sticks. Know nothing of D West, we'll give him a look and I'll research. Also we may have a distant relative of Micheal 'Thriller" Jackson, that would be 1 pt a game 1/2 rebound Jermaine Jackson. Had a hit in 1984 called 'Dynamite" check it on You Tube, he must be really old.

Robert Swift added some ink to his repertoire. He could kick Carrot Top's new steroid ass! Good luck in 07-8 Swifty!

Who the whole NBA be talkin' about. Is that #21 for Texas Richard Simmons son? Durant WILL blossom, just not this year except for select games.

I would like to send Clay on a hunting trip w/Mr. Cheney. Too bad a musket can't be set to fully automatic. Then one day old Clay was shootin' for some food, and up from the Key came an angry Sonic duuuude, fan that is, latte' drinkers, vegan stars.  Well Clay said team "Hey, move away from there, I live in Oklahoma 'n I don't have a care. Said Oklahoma is where the Sonics gonna be, so all you Seattleites can all go piss up a tree!" Gonna be nice hangin' that NBA title banner and all those conference flags in Oklahoma City. You bite Clay.

We will be adding whiskey to our coffees after many games this season. To soften the sting. Speaking of Starbuck's, f%ck you too Sam Schulman, you started all this!
